Our Namesake

The Green River rises from Kings Mountain, in south-central Kentucky, the land of my great-grandparents.  The river follows a meandering path through the Commonwealth eventually joining the Mighty Ohio.  Tributaries of the Green River include the Barren River, the Nolin River, the Pond River, and the Rough River.  The river was named after Nathanael Greene, a general of the American Revolutionary War.  Veterans of that war settled near the river looking for peace and

a new way of life.
